Architecture is the masterly, correct, and magnificent

play of masses brought together in light.

Our eyes are made to see forms in light:

light and shade reveal these forms.

Le Corbusier was commissioned to design the church of Notre-Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France at the end of World War II. This church stands in contrast to his early light-flooded buildings. The thick, sculptural, white walls reflect the colors of the deeply recessed stained glass windows, giving the chapel a demure ethereal glow.
